UNION — Approximately 60 people got to enjoy an evening of refreshments, conversation, and art during a reception for local artist Shannon Farr at the Union County Arts Council Art Gallery this Thursday.

The UCAC Art Gallery at 116 E. Main St., Union, is currently displaying Farr’s works which will remain on display at the art gallery through June.

On Thursday, the public not only had an opportunity to view Farr’s work but to also meet the artist herself during a reception in her honor hosted by the UCAC.

A number of people took advantage of that opportunity and attended the reception, enjoying the refreshments served, mingling with others in attendance and meeting with and listening to a brief address by Farr. She discussed her work, pointing out that the 50 paintings on display are from different series she has done over the past 10 years. Farr said that they include a series on horses, collage work featuring cats, works featuring her daughter, and, most recently, works on faith. She also talked about taking lessons from fellow artist Betsy Skipper, pointing to the watercolor works she has done as a result of those lessons.

UCAC Coordinator Amber Ivey said that the evening was a success drawing around 60 people.
