UNION — The president of the South Carolina Baptist Congress of Christian Education will be the featured speaker during next week’s Christian Leadership Institute at Corinth Baptist Church in Union.
The Pacolet River Baptist Congress of Christian Education will observe its Annual Christian Leadership Institute April 18-22. The four-day event will feature an address by Dr. Toney C. Parks, President of the South Carolina Baptist Congress of Christian Education, who will speak Thursday evening.
According to the South Carolina Baptist Congress of Christian Education website (sccongress.org) “Dr. Parks is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. He is a 1980 Criminal Justice graduate of the University of South Carolina. He received a Masters Divinity degree from Erskine College and Theological Seminary, and earned a Doctorate degree, in counseling from Westminster Theological Seminary. Dr Parks has served and participated in the Oxford England Round-Table on the subject of ‘Race I America.’ Dr. Parks is an Asst Professor of Biblical Counseling and Practical Theology at Erskine Theological Seminary.”
In addition, the website states that “Dr. Parks is very active in the community. His responsibilities consist of the following: President of the South Carolina Congress of Christian Education, 1st Vice Moderator of the Enoree River Baptist Association. He has served as a Governor appointed Commissioner for the State of South Carolina. He serves as Chaplain of the Greenville City Police Department, and is the President and Co-founder of Family Outreach Community Services in Greenville South Carolina. He has served as Co-Host of the 107.3 Vital Link morning radio show dealing with community issues relating to the family. Dr. Parks has also served as consultant to Senator Ralph Anderson “Organized Gang Task Force.”
It further states that “Dr. Parks is a training facilitator throughout the state and nation in the subject of marriage from a Christian Prospective. He is a facilitator for the South Carolina Fatherhood Coalition. Dr. Parks has spoken before the South Carolina Senate in Defense of the Marriage Protection Amendment, which passed overwhelmingly. In additional to his facilitation of workshops and seminars, Dr. Parks is a State and National instructor on the subject of Church Leadership, Administration and polity for the South Carolina Education and Missionary Convention; and the National Baptists Convention of America, USA.”
The website states that “Dr. Parks has served as Sr. Pastor of the Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church for the past 24 years. Being the Pastor of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church has been one of the greatest and rewarding challenges of His ministerial journey. Dr. and his wife have been together for over 34 years, they are the proud parents of two sons, Hamilton and Donovan. Dr. Parks states that ‘He Love the Lord, He honors his wife, live for his family, and that he is dedicated to the church.’”
An annual event of the Pacolet River Baptist Congress of Christian Education, this year’s Christian Leadership Institute will be held at Corinth Baptist Church at 3o2 North Herndon Street, Union.
The theme, scriputres, and focuse of this year’s Institute are:
• Theme — “Growing Disciples for Christ through Education”
• Scriptures — Ephesians 4:15; Colossians 19; 1 Peter 2:2; and Hebrews 5:12-13
• Focus — Envisioning the Future Exceptionally through Trained Learners

Each evening during the Institute meals will be served from 5:30-6:15 p.m. to participants. The meals will be serve on the following days at the following churches:
• Monday, April 18 at St. Luke
• Tuesday, April 19 at St. Paul
• Wednesday, April 20 at Woodson Chapel
• Thursday, April 21 at Lockhart Chapel
• Friday, April 22 at Maple Ridge
The nightly sessions of the Institute will be from 6:30-8 p.m. with nine Christian Education classes offered to youth and adults.
In addition to Park’s address Thursday evening, the Rev. J.A. Calhoun, Pastor of Corinth Baptist Church, will deliver an address to the Institute Friday evening.
