Union Civitan Pancake Day Thursday

Breakfast will be served from from 7-9 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and dinner from 5-7 p.m. The menu will include, bacon, sausage, coffee, juice, milk, and, of course, all the pancakes you can eat.


Union Civitan Club Pancake Day

The Union Civitan Club will hold its Pancake Day 2016 on Thursday, March 24 at the Mon Aetna Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, Lockhart Highway, Union.

Breakfast will be served from 7-9 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and dinner from 5-7 p.m.

On the menu are “all you can eat pancakes;” Midway’s famous sausage and bacon; and juice, coffee, and milk.

Carry out will be available.

Pancake Day is one of the Union Civitan Club’s biggest fundraisers. The club uses the proceeds from Pancake Day and other fundraisers to support developmental disablities programs and the Special Olympics program in Union County.

Carlisle Easter Egg Hunt

The Town of Carlisle will hold an Easter Egg Hunt for the children of the Carlisle Community on Sunday, March 27 at 3 p.m.

The Easter Egg Hunt is for children ages 10 and under. All children must be accompanied by an adult and all adults must be accompanied by children.

Please bring your own container for eggs.

In addition to the Easter Egg Hunt, the event will also feature an “Easter Fashion Walk.”

Refreshments will be served.

Donations and volunteers for the event are needed.

Relay For Life Fundraisers

The following Relay For Life fundraisers will be held over the next several weeks.

• Saturday, April 2

— Corinth Baptist Relay Team holds a Chittling Dinner from 11a.m.-until on Winbush Lane, Union, plates are $8.

• Saturday, April 23

— Dollar General Relay Team will have Shayna Marie from Crunk for Cardio to do a workout session at the Jonesville Gym 5 p.m., admission is a $10 donation.

Wednesday, March 23

• The Union County Disabilities and Special Needs Board of Directors will have their monthly meeting at noon. The meeting will be held at 226 S. Gadberry Street. Lunch will be provided.

• Bojangles will hold an Easter Egg Hunt for children from 2-5 p.m. There will be games, prizes, and lots of candy.

Monday, March 28

• The Union County First Steps Partnership Board will hold its regular meeting at 5:15 p.m. at the Union County Schools District Office Annex located at 120 Lakeside Drive in Union. The public is invited to attend.

Saturday, April 2

• Come join Betsy & company along with the Over the Hill Gang Relay for Life team on a fun filled day to Harrah’s Cherokee Casino. Tuesday, April 5

The Union County Beekeepers Association will meet at 6 p.m. in the Clemson Extension Meeting Room at the fairgrounds.

Light refreshments are served at 6 p.m. and the program begins at 6:30 p.m.

Greg Campbell, Vice President of the Spartanburg Beekeepers, will present a program on Nucs and Splits.

Everyone interested in bees is encouraged to attend. If you have not ordered your packaged bees, Dan needs number and money by March 31. Pick up date has been moved to April 23.

The Union County Historical Society will hold a fundraiser on Wednesday, March 23 at El Poblano from 5-10 p.m. Dine in or carry out.

Buffalo Fire Department Offering Scholarship

The Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department’s James H. Hampton Scholarship will be awarded to a recipient that lives in the BVFD Service Area.

The scholarship is available to a high school senior or adult that is seeking an advanced degree. The degree may be pursued at a technical school, college or university.

The deadline for applying for this scholarship is April 29, 2016.

FCL Offering $750 Scholarship

Union County Family & Community Leaders (FCL) is offering a $750 scholarship to a Union County adult resident who has been, or is in the workforce, and is raising a family.

This award will be paid out in two installments of $375. The first payment will be made in time for your first semester, and the second in time for your second semester. Award will be directed to the qualified institution (technical school/community college, 4-year college or university) of your choice.

Completed applications are due on or before June 1, 2016. Applications received after this date will be disqualified.

Post 22 To Improve 2016 Baseball Team

Union American Legion Post 22 is currently working on much-needed improvements for their 2016 baseball team. Changes will be made from top to bottom, and will go back to the 1925 roots of American Legion Baseball, teaching “young Americans the importance of sportsmanship, good health, and active citizenship.” This quote is from the historical article at www.legion.org/baseball/history

Legion Post 22 is currently looking for enthused volunteers to help carry the proud tradition of American Legion baseball forward in Union County. If you love baseball and working with teenagers, or just like helping out in your community, and are able to contribute in any way at all, please consider volunteering. There are many ways to contribute your time, from being one of the coaches for the regular or junior teams, to just helping out for a few hours at a time. Bereavement Program

Medi Home Hospice is sponsoring a Bereavement Program. Anyone who has lost a loved one and needs guidance with their loss is invited to attend.

The Bereavement Program will be held at the Medi Home Hospice office located at 720 Duncan Bypass, Suite C, Union, on the top floor of Austin Rehab.

Meetings will be every first Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m.

Facilitators are Rev. Richard Brown, Chaplain; Kanisha Benjamin, Social Worker.
