UNION — Taylor Peahuff was awarded the Military Order of the Purple Heart $3,000 Scholarship for 2015.

The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) is a non-profit membership organization that is not affiliated with the military service branches.

The MOPH Scholarship Program is a competitive scholarship program that awards approximately 80 scholarships to Purple Heart recipients and their spouses, children, and grandchildren each year.

Taylor was eligible to apply for the MOPH scholarship as a result of her grandfather, Sammy E. Smith being a Purple Heart recipient. He served in the United States Army and was wounded in the Vietnam Conflict.

This year the Scholarship Committee considered over 300 applications and selected 83 scholarship recipients nationally. The scholarship recipients were recognized for superb academic achievements, leadership attributes, impressive record of extracurricular activities, and community service.

Taylor is currently a sophomore at the University of South Carolina Upstate.
