Carlisle Holding Food Distribution

The Town of Carlisle will hold a free food distribution for residents of the Carlisle Community on Tuesday, March 15 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Carlisle Town Hall. Community residents must bring photographic identification with them in order to receive the food being distributed.

Volunteers are needed to help with the distribution.

March Madness

The Friends of the Library are holding Inventory Book Sale — all books drastically reduced! Hardbacks 3 for a $1.00; paperbacks 10 for a dollar; children’s and young adult 6 for a dollar! Open every Friday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., 126 East Main Street.

Historical Society Fundraiser

The Union County Historical Society will hold a fundraiser on Wednesday, March 23 at El Poblano from 5-10 p.m. Dine in or carry out.

Buffalo Fire Department Offering Scholarship

The Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department’s James H. Hampton Scholarship will be awarded to a recipient that lives in the BVFD Service Area.

The scholarship is available to a high school senior or adult that is seeking an advanced degree. The degree may be pursued at a technical school, college or university.

The deadline for applying for this scholarship is April 29, 2016.

Chicken Strip Plate Fundraiser

Buffalo Seafood will sposnor a “Chicken Strip Plate Fundraiser” on Monday, March 21 from 5-8 p.m.

All proceeds will go to The Miracle League of Union County’s “All Inclusive Playground Project (A playground for everyone to enjoy).”

Plates are $8 and will include chicken strips, fries, slaw, and roll.

Baked goods will be available for an additional donation.

Union Civitan Club Pancake Day

The Union Civitan Club will hold its Pancake Day 2016 on Thursday, March 24 at the Mon Aetna Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, Lockhart Highway, Union.

Breakfast will be served from 7-9 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and dinner from 5-7 p.m.

On the menu are “all you can eat pancakes;” Midway’s famous sausage and bacon; and juice, coffee, and milk.

Carry out will be available.

FCL Offering $750 Scholarship

Union County Family & Community Leaders (FCL) is offering a $750 scholarship to a Union County adult resident who has been, or is in the workforce, and is raising a family.

This award will be paid out in two installments of $375. The first payment will be made in time for your first semester, and the second in time for your second semester. Award will be directed to the qualified institution (technical school/community college, 4-year college or university) of your choice.

Completed applications are due on or before June 1, 2016. Applications received after this date will be disqualified.

FCL is a non-profit organization, and we support this scholarship fund and many smaller service projects through fundraising events during the year.

Post 22 To Improve 2016 Baseball Team

Union American Legion Post 22 is currently working on much-needed improvements for their 2016 baseball team. Changes will be made from top to bottom, and will go back to the 1925 roots of American Legion Baseball, teaching “young Americans the importance of sportsmanship, good health, and active citizenship.” This quote is from the historical article at

Legion Post 22 is currently looking for enthused volunteers to help carry the proud tradition of American Legion baseball forward in Union County. If you love baseball and working with teenagers, or just like helping out in your community, and are able to contribute in any way at all, please consider volunteering. There are many ways to contribute your time, from being one of the coaches for the regular or junior teams, to just helping out for a few hours at a time. • The Ladies of Iris will sponsor a “Walking Doll Program” for young children in the Union Community at 2 p.m. The event will take place at the Pacolet River Association Building on Lovers Lane, Union. • Union American Legion Post 22 will hold its monthly meeting in its usual location, the Legion Hut at 120 Scenic Drive in Veterans Memorial Park in Union. Bereavement Program

Medi Home Hospice is sponsoring a Bereavement Program. Anyone who has lost a loved one and needs guidance with their loss is invited to attend.

The Bereavement Program will be held at the Medi Home Hospice office located at 720 Duncan Bypass, Suite C, Union, on the top floorof Austin Rehab.

Meetings will be every first Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
