UNION — A student at Foster Park Elementary School was honored recently for reading more than 7,000 pages in a reading contest sponsored by the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.

In a statement released earlier this month, the school announced that Tristan Yi, a fourth grade student, was among the FPES students who took part in the Read with the Gamecocks reading contest.

The press release further states that Yi and his fellow FPES students were among the more than 3,000 students from school all across South Carolina that participated in the contest.

Students participating in the Read with the Gamecocks reading contest must record the number of pages they read during the contest.

The press release states that Yi read 7,117 pages making him for the top fourth grade reader in the state.

For his achievement, Yi was recognized by during a Feb. 18 Gamecock’s basketball game.
