NSDAR holds February meeting

DAR Good Citizen Award presented

UNION — The Fair Forest Chapter, NSDAR, met Tuesday, February 2, at Grace United Methodist Church.

Regent, Margaret McCarley, called the meeting to order. For the Devotional, “The Lord’s Prayer” was said. The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the U.S., the American’s Creed, and Salute to the Flag of S.C. were recited by the chapter.

Martha Whitener, Chairperson of the President General’s Committee, gave the President General’s Message. She reported that the 125th Continental Congress would be held in Washington in June.

Mrs. Whitener, Chairman, presented the Fair Forest Chapter’s Good Citizens program. The DAR Good Citizen is selected for four qualities: dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. This year’s winner is Mark Spencer, a senior at Union Christian Day School. He read his essay which emphasized the First Amendment to the Constitution, freedom of speech and what a privilege freedom of speech is in the United States. Mrs. Whitener presented him with the DAR Good Citizen’s pin, certificate and wallet card.

The next meeting will be April 5.
