UNION — A group of local artists who gather each Tuesday to paint and socialize were honored this past Tuesday with a reception at the Union County Arts Council Art Gallery.

The “Tuesday Painting With Coffee Group” are eight local artists who gather each Tuesday at the Art Gallery to have coffee, talk, and paint. The members of the group are:

• Bennie Giles

• Nanette Jenkins

• Betsy Skipper

• Sally Parker

• Claude Hicks

• Sharon Thompson

• Lucy Prim

• Angie Locke

The group was honored this past Tuesday with a reception held in their honor at the Art Gallery.

“It went really well,” UCAC Coordinator Amber Ivey said. “We had about 25 people here and most of the artists were present. Each (artist) took a turn talking about the work they do.”

The artists not only talked about their work during the reception, they also created more of it, with each working on another painting as they talked with the other members of the group as well as those attending to honor them. They also, of course, had coffee.

A total of 35 paintings by the members of the group are currently on display at the Art Gallery which is located at 116 E. Main St., Union. Ivey said that some of the paintings are for sale.

Wine Tasting

The UCAC hosts a number of events at the Art Gallery and in March will host its second wine tasting event.

In June 2015, the UCAC hosted its first wine tasting, an event that drew over 200 people who got to taste wine provided by Enoree River Winery.

Those who enjoyed last year’s event and those who would like to take part in a wine tasting for the first time will have the opportunity to do so when the UCAC hosts a wine tasting on March 11.

Ivey said there will be three wine tastings that evening at 6 p.m., 7 p.m., and 8 p.m. She said this year the wine will be Biltmore wine.

Tickets for the event are $10 each and are now on sale, but Ivey cautioned slots for the wine tasting are limited and she urged those interested in attending to purchase their tickets as soon as possible. She said that persons interested in purchasing a ticket should call either the Union County Arts Council or a member of the UCAC board.

Membership Drive

The UCAC is in the middle of a membership drive. Ivey said that by becoming a member a person receives discounts on UCAC classes, camps, and activities. She said the UCAC offers a number of membership options including the family memberships which cost $25 per family.

For more information about the Wine Tasting and other events and becoming a member, contact the Union County Arts Council at 864-429-2817.
