Lady Tigers defeat Gaffney 39-22

UNION — The Sims Middle School Lady Tigers defeated Gaffney in the Tigers’ final home game last week.

The Lady Tigers defeated Gaffney in a final score of 39-22 on Thursday.

Second-generation Head Coach Ruth Ann Pitt said the team played the best game of their season with an impressive 32 overall rebounds and 32 overall steals.

“This was a great game,” Pitt said. “The girls took everything we’ve been working on in practice and executed it well in the game. We had some gorgeous plays with flawless passes into the post, which ended in beautiful lay-ups. We also had some beautiful jump shots.”

Pitt said her team’s post game was also strong, both offensively and defensively. The Tigers’ post players had 13 steals collectively.

Pitt also said point guard Likeyvia Land led the team well in Thursday’s game.

“She (Land) really ‘saw the floor’ well and had numerous assists,” Pitt said. “Our teamwork was astounding. I am so proud of these girls.”

Land scored 14 points, with six rebounds and 12 steals. Corenza Stewart scored 11 points with three steals. Jamaye’ Jeter scored six points with 13 rebounds and five steals. Carmen Glenn scored eight points with 11 rebounds and eight steals. Chariah Tucker had two rebounds; Arianna Whitmire had two steals; and Shamaria Glenn had one steal.
