UNION — The Union Lions Club has two new Lions.

The club held its January meeting on Thursday, Jan. 14 in the Lions Club Building on East Main Street in downtown Union.

During the meeting, the members dined together and conducted the club’s business.

Among the items on the agenda was the induction of two new members.

The new Lions are Rebecca Moore and Mimi Charles. They were each sponsored by a current Lions Club member. In Moore’s case it was Lions Club President Sue Keith. In Charles’ case it was Lion France Adams.

The induction ceremony was conducted by Past District Governor George Goings. Each new Lion and their sponsor held lit candles while the new members took the oath of membership.

The new members bring to 25 the number of Lions in the Union Lions Club.

In addition to the induction ceremony, the meeting featured a guest speaker. The guest speaker was Lion Buddy Cantrell of the Joanna Lions Club. He spoke on the Leader Dog Program. The program, which is supported by Lions Clubs across the nation, trains dogs to be seeing eye dogs for blind people.

The evening also featured a presentation by Christopher Roach of Civitas Media about the Community Directory that will be published this year by The Union Times.
