Union resident seeks Lander board seat


More that 50 apply for seats on college, university boards

COLUMBIA — A Union County resident is among the more than 50 people to formally request they be appointed to the boards of trustees of South Carolina colleges and universities.

In a statement released Friday, Sen. Harvey S. Peeler Jr., Chairman of the Joint Legislative Committee to Screen Candidates for College and University Boards of Trustees announced that it had received letters of intent 54 people interested in being appointed or reappointed to boards of trustees of the state’s colleges and universities. The deadline for submittting the letters of intent was Dec. 30, and the next step in the appointment process will be the screening and qualify of candidates for the seats.

Upon turning in their letter to the committee, an Application Packet is given to the prospective candidate who must complete it and hand deliver it to Peeler at the Committee Office by no later than noon, Friday, Jan. 29, 2016.

Among the persons submitting letters of intent was Union County resident Hester Booker who is seeking appointment to the US Fifth Congressinoal District Seat on the Lander Unviersity Board of Trustees.
