USC Union Walk In Registration Week
Walk In Registration for the spring semester at USC Union will be held the Week of Jan. 4.
Extended will be until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6 at the Laurens location and Jan. 7 at the Union campus.
Orientation for new students will be Jan. 10 at 7 a.m. Classes begin Jan. 11.

Tuesday, Jan. 5
• The Union County Advanced Technology Center will hold on-site registration from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
• The Union County Beekeepers Association will meet at 6 p.m. in the Clemson Extension Meeting Room at the fairgrounds.
Light refreshments are served at 6 p.m. and the program begins at 6:30 p.m.
David McFawn, Master Beekeeper, will present a program on Pollination. He is the author of Getting the Best From Your Bees. Autographed copies of his book will be available for purchase.
Everyone interested in bees is encouraged to attend.

High School Gifted/Talented Arts Classes Nominations
The nomination period for Gifted/Talented Arts Classes is now open. Gifted and Talented Arts Classes are offered in Drama, Visual Arts, and Music. Students may be nominated by teachers, parents, or friends. Students may nominate themselves. Forms may be picked up in your school’s guidance office or the school’s fine arts teachers.
The form must be turned in to the guidance office at the nominee’s school no later than 3:30 p.m. on January 5, 2016. School screenings will take place during the week of January 19-22, 2016. Final district screenings will be held on February 13, 2016 at Union County High School. This arts screening is a four-step process which includes nomination, arts teacher screening, school audition, and final district audition.
Professional Development No-Fee Workshop
The Department of Fine Arts at Winthrop University will offer an Arts and Technology Professional Development No-Fee Workshop beginning in January.
The focus of this training will be on the use of the iPad, creative apps and other related technologies, and will demonstrate the interrelationship of traditional and digital media, practical classroom logistics for using technology, and other relevant issues. This course will launch in January 2016 and will be offered to a group of 25 teachers who will take the course at Winthrop University for teacher re-certification credit. Fine Arts and Art Education professors will teach this pilot course. The new content developed for this course will build upon the 2014 Research Council Grant used to create an arts instructional website for using the iPad, Winthrop Fine Arts Tech or www.winthropfineartstech.com.
