UNION COUNTY — Dr. David L. Eubanks will serve as the Union County School District’s interim superintendent throughout the remainder of the current school year.
After the resignation of Dr. Kristi Woodall, a special called meeting of the Union County Board of School Trustees resulted in the naming of Eubanks as interim superintendent to serve at least through the remainder of the 2015-2016 school year or until the board employs a new permanent superintendent. Eubanks will officially take his position when school resumes on Jan. 4 following the winter break.
Eubanks has served as Union County School District superintendent on two previous occasions, and he is a former superintendent of Spartanburg School District 6, where he oversaw the construction of four new schools including the relocation of Dorman High School.
In addition to his service as superintendent in Union County and Spartanburg School District 6, Eubanks worked in Spartanburg School District 3 where he served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and principal. He retired in 2002 after 38 years in education, the last 15 of those years as District 6 superintendent. Even in retirement, however, he continued to be involved in education, serving as superintendent for the Union County School District, a position he will hold for the third time beginning in January.
Eubanks’ long career in education was honored in 2010 when the Spartanburg School District 6 District Office Administration Building was named the David L. Eubanks Administration Building.
A press release from the board stated that beginning a search for a new permanent superintendent has not yet been discussed, but once the process has been determined, an announcement will be made about how the community can become involved in the search.
