UNION — Even though things are really busy for them at the North Pole right now that didn’t stop Santa and Mrs. Claus from helping bring some Christmas cheer to the residents of the Union Housing Authority Tuesday afternoon.
Santa and Mrs. Claus were at the Union Housing Authority for the annual Christmas event the UHA hosts for housing authority residents. The event was organized and hosted by UHA Resident Initiative Coordinator Carolyn Rutherford who said the annual event is designed to provide Christmas gifts for the adults and children of the housing authority.
“We try to make sure the kids and adults get some kind of gift for Christmas,” Rutherford said Wednesday afternoon.
Some of those gifts were handed out by Santa and Mrs. Claus who visited with the children attending the event to hear their Christmas wishes.
As for the adults, they got to play bingo during a game hosted by Rutherford.
No party is complete without something good to eat, and Tuesday’s event was no different as hot dogs were served.
While the UHA hosted the event, Rutherford said they were assisted in the effort by a number of other organizations including Mon Aetna Baptist Church, McBeth Baptist Church, First Steps, Head Start, Save the Children, and the Union County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. Rutherford said the groups provided prizes and presents and activities, especially for the children.
Rutherford said the event was a success and thanked everyone for their help.
“The event went very well, everybody enjoyed it,” Rutherford said. “It was a lot of work, but it was worth it. I want everyone for their help and wish everybody a Merry Christmas.”
