Carlisle woman receives degree

GREENWOOD — The James Medford Family Event Center at Piedmont Technical College welcomed more than 350 Piedmont Technical College graduates for a commencement ceremony to celebrate their accomplishments.

Dr. Ray Brooks, president, welcomed graduates, family and guests to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduates.

“I was thinking about past Christmases and trying to remember the best gift I’ve received,” Brooks said. “Education is the gift that you give yourself that will help sustain you as you go through life.”

Brooks was followed by the commencement speakers. The address was delivered by two graduating students – Cheryl Mackey, a computer technology major from Greenwood; and Hannah Byerly, a diversified agriculture and horticulture major from Greenwood.

Lavonda S. Thomas, of Carlisle, received an associate in applied science with a major in nursing.
