UNION — A father-daughter dance was held Saturday night as a fundraiser for a local after-school program.

The father-daughter dance was sponsored by after-school programs — Pooh’s Playhouse and Lead By Example — and coordinated by Marcus Porter and Wyshell Garrett.

Garrett, of Pooh’s Playhouse, said the program has been going great so far.

“We have a wonderful after-school program,” she said. “We are trying to raise money to purchase eight computers, one large printer and four-five tables, so we can assist kids with their after-school studies and take-home projects.”

Garrett said the program’s purpose is to help children build their vocabulary, reading and math skills as part of the Homework Matters campaign.

The program’s next fundraiser will be called “Bail Miss Wyshell out of Jail.” Garrett said a photo was taken of her in handcuffs with Sheriff Taylor, and when the fundraiser begins, donations will be accepted at the Union County Sheriff’s Office and several local convenience stores.

Pooh’s Playhouse is located at the Nixon Center, Suite L, at 708 Duncan Bypass, Union.
