UNION — More than a year after being damaged by hail the roofs of two buildings on the USC Union campus are finally being replaced.

Dean Alice Taylor-Colbert said Friday that “Monday a week ago,” work began on replacing the roof on the Main Building. She said the project was a long time in coming.

“We had to replace that roof because of hail damage in 2014,” Taylor-Colbert said. “It’s taken us this long to get it to happen, but the insurance is paying for it and it’s getting done.”

In addition, Taylor-Colbert said that the fascia board and the ceiling of the interior of the Main Building will also be repaired.

While the university’s insurance will pay for the replacement of the roof, Taylor-Colbert said the university itself will have to pay for the on the fascia board and the ceiling.

Taylor-Colbert said she expects work on the Main Building’s new roof to be completed within a few weeks. She said workers will then begin work on replacing the Central Building’s roof which was also damaged by hail in 2014. While the Central Building roof was damaged, Taylor-Colbert said it has not experienced any other damage like the Main Building has.
