UNION — The Sims Middle School 8th grade football team won the Peach Tree Conference East Division Championship on Thursday.

The 8th grade Sims Tigers defeated the Gable Buckaroos in a final score of 48-28 on Thursday, securing their division championship and a shot at the conference championship next week.

“I am so excited for these kids,” said Sims Coach Mitchell Moss. “We dug ourselves a hole at beginning of the season going 0-2, but we fought the rest of way and won five in row. They understand that it’s a one-game season.”

Keion Glover scored the first touchdown, and KeSean Glover ran in the two-point conversion.

The Tigers later recovered a fumble, which led to KeSean Glover connecting with Jabari Meadow on a 54-yard touchdown and Keion Glover scoring the two-point conversion. Gable answered with a score of their own, but Sims fired right back when Malik Tucker recovered a fumble by Keion Glover in the end zone and Tucker scored the touchdown. KeSean Glover connected with Jabari Meadow for the two-point conversion. At the half, the Tigers led 24-12.

In the second half, Keion Glover ran for a 60-yard touchdown and Chris Glass scored the two-point conversion.

The next score for Sims came when KeSean Glover connected with Dakota Wells for a 56-yard touchdown pass, and KeSean also scored the two-point conversion.

The Tigers’ final score came from a two-yard run by JaQuan Boyd and a two-point conversion by KeSean Glover.

Keion Glover, Dakota Wells and Jabari Meadow each intercepted passes during Thursday’s division championship game.

The Tigers are 5-2 (4-1 in division play).

“I can’t be any prouder, but we are not finished and our last goal is still obtainable,” Moss said. “We will have a tough challenge next week.”

The Tigers will travel to Florence Chapel next Thursday in an attempt to bring home the Peach Tree Conference Championship.
