UNION — Local artists who would like to exhibit and possibly even sell their work will have the opportunity to do so during the Local Artists’ Showcase hosted by the Union County Arts Council throughout the holiday season.

Arts Council Coordinator Amber Ivey announced this week that the showcase will begin at the end of this month.

“We’re going to accept the entries October 29 through November 4,” Ivey said. “We will accept them during regular business hours, but other arrangements can be made for after hours drop off.”

Ivey said the showcase is open to artists working in any medium.

“The showcase is open to anything from woodworking to knitting and crochet,” Ivey said. “It’s open to glass work, painting, sculpture, jewelry, and homemade Christmas ornaments.”

Ivey said the purpose of the showcase is not only to provide local artists with an opportunity to publicly exhibit their work free of charge, but to also possibly sell their work.

“Each artist will get a table in the Art Gallery to display their work,” Ivey said. “People will be able to come in and view their work and purchase it.”

Ivey said that the Local Artists’ Showcase will be on display at the Art Gallery through the end of the year.

The Union County Arts Council Art Gallery is located at 116 E. Main St., Union, and is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Ivey added that in

addition to its regular hours, the gallery will be open during Downtown Open House to allow those attending the opportunity to view and, if they so choose, purchase the works of art in the showcase.

While it will be taking place during the holiday season including Christmas, Ivey said that the showcase is not limited to works of art with Christmas themes.

“It can be anything, Christmas-themed or not,” Ivey said.

Union County Arts Council President Bennie Giles urged all local artists to enter their work in the showcase.

“It’s a great opportunity for artists to have their work displayed publicly,” Giles said. “It is a great opportunity for them to sell their work.”

Giles added that the showcase is open both to artists who have previously exhibited their work and those who haven’t.

“This is open to everyone,” Giles said. “It is open to both artists looking to have their work displayed for the first time and those who have had exhibitions before.”
