UNION — A Union County High School student defeated two opponents to win a tennis tournament this past weekend.

In a statement released Wednesday, USTPA Pro Brad Tate announced that over the weekend, Alexa Nance won the Girls 16 Singles Consolation Backdraw at the Thornblade Junior Fall Tennis Classic in Greer. Tate said that the competition took place Friday, Saturday and Sunday and that Nance played two matches on Saturday and one on Sunday. He said that in those matches, Nance defeated Lucy Dickerson of Greenville 6-3 and 6-2 and Olivia Turner of Greer 6-1 and 6-0 to win the competition.

Tate said that another UCHS student, Grant Harris, also played in the tournament. He said Harris played in the Boys 16 Division Friday and Saturday. While Harris did not win, Tate said he played very well against Gaffney’s number one player, Shayan Tazossli.

Nance is a member of the UCHS Girls Tennis Team and Harris is a member of the UCHS Boys Tennis Team.

“They are both top players,” said Tate, who is the private coach for both Nance and Harris.
