UNION — The artist who judged the paintings submitted to the Union County Arts Council’s Juried Art Show and that are currently on display at USC Union has an exhibit of her own work at the UCAC Art Gallery.
Toni Elkins is an artist from Columbia who was selected by the UCAC to serve as the Juror for the 2015 Art Exhibition which took place at USC Union. As Juror, Elkins judged the 65 paintings submitted for the exhibition and the Art Show and selected the winning entries. The paintings submitted for the Art Show are on display in the lobby and adjacent halls of the USC Union Main Building and will remain there through Oct. 30.
In addition to judging the works submitted by local and area artists, Elkins has a number of her paintings on display at the UCAC Art Gallery on Main Street in downtown Union.
According to information provided by UCAC Director Amber Ivey, Elkins is an abstract artist whose work is done mostly in mixed media. Elkins paints to music which she finds both compelling and relaxing and feels that different kinds of music can change the rhythm patterns of an artist’s work and move them to another genre.
Elkins has been elected to 18 signature memberships including the South Carolina Watermedia Society, Watercolor USA Honor Society, Rocky Mountain National, Texas Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society. She has paintings exhibited in Permanent Collections in the Ashville Museum of Art, Soringfield Missouri Art Museum, Randolph Macon Women’s College, Clemson Botanical Gardens and many other sites.
In April 2015, Elkins, who has been judging art shows since 1993, was Juror for Artfields Junior Art Exhibition in Lake City, SC. She won the Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Award for contributions to South Carolina Art in 1999 and the Special Recognition Award for Outstanding Contributions to SC Watercolor Society.
The most recent awards for Elkins’ work are the SC State Fair: Clark Ellefson Merit Award, 2014 and The American Artist Magazine, Honorable Mention Mixed-Media, 2013.
Elkins’ work is on display at the UCAC Gallery, 116 E. Main Street, Union, and will remain on display through Friday, Oct. 30.
