UNION — The Sims Middle School volleyball team fell short in the first match of the Peachtree Conference Tournament on Saturday.

Sims was defeated by Rainbow Lake in their first match of Saturday’s tournament. The final score of Game 1 was 25-9 in favor of Rainbow Lake, and Sims’ Coach Tracy Duncan said her team played somewhat sluggish and did not work well together.

Duncan said the team improved during the second game.

“We played much better and hustled, communicated and worked together,” she said. “We had some nice passes and digs by several people.”

The Tigers tied the game and took the lead, but they could not pull off the win. The final score of that game was 25-23.

“I really thought we were going to win both games, but especially the second one,” Duncan said.

Peachtree Conference players were recognized, and for Sims, they were Ashanti Young and Aubrey Thompson.

“We had a great season,” Duncan said, pointing out the team had a 5-6 regular-season record. “People don’t realize the tough conference we play in. I am very proud of them.”
