UNION COUNTY — The chairman of the Union County Republican Party has been named chairman of the Jeb Bush presidential campaign in Union County.

In a statement released earlier this week, Bush announced the “first round of Upstate campaign leaders for his presidential campaign.” The press release describes the campaign leaders selected by Bush as “high profile business, community and Republican Party leaders from Greenville, Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union Counties.”

The announcement stressed Bush’s commitment to winning South Carolina.

“I’m committed to winning in South Carolina, and am grateful for the support from these state leaders. Our organization will be taking our message of disrupting the status quo in Washington, reforming our tax code, and restoring America’s military strength to every corner of the state.”

Union County Republican Party Chairman Mike Fowler was one of the Upstate campaign leaders announced by Bush. Fowler will chair Bush’s campaign in Union County, but will not confine his campaign activities to just Union County.

“In Union County I will be doing phone bank and door-to-door activities,” Fowler said Wednesday during an interview with The Union Daily Times. “I’m also going to each of the several counties around Union to speak.”

The press release issued by the Bush campaign quotes Fowler as saying “our party needs an experienced leader with a record of results, not someone who just talks. Governor Bush can lead our country on critical issues like protecting life, cutting burdensome government regulations and growing our economy because he’s already done it as governor. Jeb Bush is the leader we need.”

Fowler reiterated this Wednesday, pointing to Bush’s “overall record and what he has shown as governor of Florida, cutting taxes eight straight years. He has the ability to rally the country and put us back on a path to prosperity.”

The Union County Republican Party has a booth at the 2015 Union County Fair at the Union County Fairgrounds and on Wednesday Fowler was manning it along with Candace Carroll, Upstate Field Director for the Bush presidential campaign. Carroll said that Fowler’s appointment came about as a result of his interest in working for the campaign.

“I reached out to all local Republican county chairmen to see if we could come and speak and recruit volunteers,” Carroll said. “Michael invited me to come down for lunch and expressed his interest in getting involved in our campaign at the leadership level.”

The South Carolina Republican Party primary will be held February 20 and Fowler will co-chair the drive to turn out the vote for Bush with Tracy Fowler who the press release described as a “community activist and member of the Union County Republican Party.”
