Saturday, Oct. 17

• The Carlisle Fire Department holds its ribbon cutting for the new fire station located at 4600 King Kennedy Highway at 11 a.m. The public is invited. Refreshments will be served.

Monday, Oct. 19

• The Union County Council holds a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. in the Grand Jury Room at the Union County Courthouse to receive comments from the public on the proposed resolution to set the tax levy for fiscal year 2015-2016. The public is invited to attend and participate.

• The Union County Council holds a special meeting in the Grand Jury Room at the Union County Courthouse immediately following the public hearing to consider the resolution to set the tax levy for fiscal year 2015-2016, to hear a presentation from Saundra Ligon with the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission, consider the proposed changes to the Building Codes Ordinance, hold an executive session to discuss a contractual matter related to facilities and an executive session to discuss a contractual matter related to economic development. The public is invited to attend.

• The Union County Board of School Trustees holds a special called meeting at 6 p.m. at the Union County Career and Technology Center. The agenda includes an executive session for discussion and legal advice related to the superintendent’s evaluation and contract terms. Also on the agenda is an open session for any action necessary based upon executive session discussions.

Tuesday, Oct. 20

• Woodmen of the World meets at 6 p.m. at Woodmen Park.

Thursday, Oct. 22

• The Jonesville Town Festival Committee meets at 6 p.m. at the Rocky Creek Water Office, located on Pacolet Street.

Saturday, Oct. 24

• The Old Buffalo Grammar/Elementary School Reunion will be held from 2-6 p.m. at the Buffalo Community Center — formerly the cafeteria of the old Buffalo School — located at 1505 Main Street, Buffalo.

The reunion is for those who attended or worked at the school, as well as the children of teachers in the decades between 1925 and 1985. Registration tables for each decade will be set up with photos and memorabilia on display. Everyone is encouraged to bring labeled items for display. Cookies and punch will be served.

Monday, Oct. 26

• The Union County Senior Citizens is planning for a New Year’s trip to Myrtle Beach.

Seniors interest in going please call 427-0936 or 487-0275 or 674-5070. Dates for the trip are Dec. 30, Dec. 31, and Jan. 1. Must be paid in full by Oct. 26.
