UNION — The Sims Middle School volleyball team was victorious against Carver on Wednesday.
Sims won Game 1 with a final score of 25-14. Sims began with Jillian Rebuck serving with seven points, and Kionna McBeth serving seven points as well. Coach Tracy Duncan said Ashunti Young, Addy Ferrell and Talia Glenn also played well in Game 1.
In Game 2, Aubrey Thompson started off the Sims offense, serving six points, and again, McBeth served seven points. Duncan said Kate Burgess had some nice passes, and Paige Blackwell hustled for a couple of saves, as did Thompson. Duncan complemented Carmen Glenn’s serving and passing, and she also said Abby Freeman was hot on serving and passing in Game 2. Duncan also praised Kallee Garner for coming in and doing her job as a back-row player. Sims won the second game 25-16.
Duncan said Game 3 included hot serves from Amber Gilliam and Kate Burgess, and Neely Parks delivering a hit from the setter and some awesome passes.
“It was a slow paced game, but we passed, served and hit really well,” Duncan said. “Teamwork and communication was better today. Hopefully this is another confidence builder that will send us to at least one of the middle seeds in conference play. We have improved so much on passing, setting and hitting. We have girls who can really attack the ball well. I believe we can win our last two matches.”
Sims is now 4-4 on the season, and they play at home against McCracken on Monday. Their final season game will be at home against Granard on Wednesday. The Peachtree Tournament will be next Saturday.
