UNION COUNTY — Students in a new course at Union County High School enjoyed an informative visit from professional crime solvers.

On Sept. 24, Sheriff David Taylor and Capt. Robbie Hines addressed students in the new Forensic Science course offered this year at UCHS. The teachers for the course are Ms. Loren Sommer Grissom and Mr. Justin Richards.

Grissom and Richards said

approximately 50 students sat in rapt attention as Taylor and Hines reinforced classroom lessons about making observations, securing crime scenes, collecting evidence, fingerprinting techniques, DNA profiling, blood spatter patterns and working with SLED.

After their presentation, Taylor and Hines opened a forum for questions and classroom discussion.

Several students indicated they may be interested in pursuing some type of career in law enforcement, and Taylor and Hines told them about opportunities in both forensics and Information Technology (IT).
