BUFFALO — Those who were a part of the old Buffalo School will have an opportunity to reunite and reminisce later this month.

The Old Buffalo Grammar/Elementary School Reunion will be held from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Buffalo Community Center — which was formerly the cafeteria of the old Buffalo School — located at 1505 Main Street in Buffalo.

The reunion will be for those who attended or worked at the school, as well as the children of teachers in the decades between 1925 and 1985.

Cookies and punch will be served, and members of the planning team say there are already more than 100 former students who have planned to attend.

“The goal is to build pride in the community and share fellowship and memories with classmates who may not have been together for years,” said Rebecca Rochester of the planning team.

The team asks that people help spread the word to family and friends who may live outside Union County to be sure everyone is made aware of the reunion.

The original Buffalo School, which burned in 1923, was built by the Buffalo Mill Company and was replaced with the Buffalo Grammar School, which opened in 1925. The grammar school operated as a school for grades 1-7 until it became an elementary school for grades K-4. The building served students until the mid-1980s.

Registration tables for each decade will be set up at the reunion with photos and memorabilia on display. Everyone is encouraged to bring labeled items for display.
