UNION — An 11-year-old Union girl has fallen in love with outdoor sports.

Sassy Hale — the daughter of Terry and Tara Hale — began hunting with her father last year.

“She’s definitely a daddy’s girl,” said her grandmother Cindy Hale.

Sassy — a student at Sims Middle School — loves to hunt and fish. She and her dad hunt from a tree stand behind her great-grandfather’s house. Sassy only hunts with her father, and she uses a crossbow.

Last year, she was not able to bag anything, but a few days after the season opened this year, Sassy shot her first doe.

“She was very, very excited,” Cindy said. “She did it all by herself.”

Sassy wanted to hunt again Thursday afternoon.

“As soon as she came home from school, she was ready to go to the woods,” Cindy said.

Cindy reported later Thursday evening that when Sassy returned from that hunting trip, she got her second deer — a small buck.
