UNION — Livestock, tractors, quilting, woodcarving, blacksmithing, and lots of activities for the children will all be part of the 13th Annual Union County Farm Show this Saturday.

The show will be held 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Union County Fairgrounds though at least one of its activities will be a parade to and from the Walmart parking lot.

“We’ll have our Parade of Power,” organizer Allen Owens said Thursday. “All the tractors that are running and are able to do so will be part of a small parade. We’ll go out of the lower gate on the Old Buffalo Road, go up to Walmart, circle the parking lot, and come back. It takes about 10 minutes.”

Owens said the Parade of Power will begin at 11 a.m.

Tractors are a big part of the farm show which, in addition to the parade, will feature a display of antique tractors as well as an “Ugly Tractor Contest.”

A farm really isn’t a farm without livestock and Owens said livestock will be a major feature of the show.

“The theme this year is ‘Farm Animals,’” Owens said. “We will have a Farm Animal Display and we will also have a Beef Cattle Show.”

Owens said the Beef Cattle Showings will be at 10:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. The Farm Animal Display will begin at 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day.

Another big part of the farm show are the activities for children which Owens said will be expanded this year.

“We’ll have the corn pool, the children have so much fun with that,” Owens said. “There will also be the Children’s Tractor Pull. The children will be get on pedal tractors and pedal them pulling a sled behind them. There are four different categories in the Children’s Tractor Pull and the children will get prizes.”

Owens said the children’s activities will also include Soap Box Derby Races which will take place at 10 a.m. He said the Corn Pool will be all day while the Children’s Tractor Pull will be under the picnic shelter at 12:15 p.m.

The farm show will also feature these activities:

• Chain Saw Art

• Saw milling

• Woodcarving

• Woodworking Tool Collection

• Blacksmithing

• Quilting Demonstration

• Antique Homesteading

• 4-H Shooting Sports

Owens said these activities will be throughout the day.

A new feature of this year’s Farm Show will be the Fireman’s Barrel Roll which Owens will be held on the upper end of the fairground next to the Old Buffalo Road at 2:30 p.m.

Owens said that at 10 a.m. there will be a patriotic program which will be followed at 10:15 a.m. by a ceremony honoring veterans. The patriotic program which will including the singing of the national anthem and the raising of the American flag will take place at the flagpole near the main exhibit building. The ceremony honoring the veterans will take place at the picnic shelter.

Admission to the Farm Show is free which Owens attributed to “the generosity of our sponsors.”

Persons attending the Farm Show who find themselves hungry will be able to purchase lunch there.
