UNION — The Sims Middle School 8th grade football team suffered a loss to Dawkins Middle School in Thursday’s season opener.
The 8th grade Sims Tigers fell short in a final score of 28-8.
“We always take pride in our teams here at Sims playing hard and being focused for the game; yesterday we were not ready,” said Coach Mitchell Moss on Friday. “Dawkins was the more physical and more prepared team.”
The Tigers put points on the board when Keion Glover returned a kickoff 80 yards for the touchdown.
As the head coach, Moss took the blame for the loss.
“We could not sustain drives, and we couldn’t get them off the field,” Moss said. “It’s my job — and our coaching staff’s — to correct the mistakes.”
Moss said the team is now focused on next week’s game in Boiling Springs.
“One game does not define who we are,” he said. “We will get better by next week when we travel to Boiling Springs.”
