UNION COUNTY — Three local middle school teams emerged victorious from a football jamboree hosted by Sims Middle School on Wednesday.

The Jonesville Wildcats middle school team shut out Blacksburg in a final score of 34-0 in the two-quarter jamboree.

Jonesville’s Coach Jay Voiselle thanked Sims’ Coach Mitchell Moss for organizing a great jamboree.

“It was a great atmosphere,” Voiselle said. “Sims players cheering for Jonesville, and Jonesville players cheering for Sims — the way it should be.”

On offense, Jonesville’s Hagan Blackwell connected with a 50-yard touchdown pass and a 35-yard touchdown pass to Ty Eison. Blackwell also ran in a 65-yard touchdown, and Eison had another 20-yard reception. Ladarius Jefferies scored two two-point conversions.

On defense, Phillip Guinn came through with a scoop-and-score touchdown, and Harold Farr, III had a safety.

On special teams, Arron Owens delivered two de-cleaters.

“Our guys have been itching to hit someone else for awhile and we did that today,” Voiselle said on Wednesday.

Voiselle said although his players have a lot to clean up, they lined up correctly; only had one penalty, which was a false start; played disciplined.

“You can’t ask for much more in a two-quarter jamboree,” he said. “I’m very proud of them.”

Both the Sims Tigers 7th and 8th grade teams also had wins during Wednesday’s jamboree.

The 7th grade team defeated Woodruff in a 30-0 shutout. Sims’ Willie Jeter connected with CJ Coleman for a 45-yard touchdown pass, and Keavis Savage scored the two-point conversion. Tarik Briggs returned a punt and had a rushing touchdown, and Ja Ruth scored a two-point conversion. Jeter also connected with Tremaine Epps for a touchdown pass, and Jeter scored a two-point conversion. Coleman recored an onside kick.

The Sims 8th grade team picked up a 36-16 victory. KeSean Glover connected with Jabori Meadow for three touchdown passes — for 50 yards, 73 yards and 40 yards. Glover also connected with Ralph Peake for a 84-yard touchdown pass, and Glover ran in a 47-yard touchdown. Brothers KeSean and Keion Glover each had a two-point conversion. Chris Glass recovered an onside kick, and both Jabori Meadow and Justin Pettit had interceptions.

Coach Mitchell Moss said both the 7th and 8th grade teams did some great things, and it was helpful for the teams to have game-like situations.

“We are still far from where we want to be,” Moss said. “We have to maintain our focus. Both teams have to become more aggressive, and fundamentals are the key to our success this year.”

Moss thanked those who came to the jamboree, and he thanked the Union County Booster Club for providing hot dogs for the teams. Moss also thanked his parents — Mike and Cheryl Moss — for serving the food.
