UNION — The public is being invited by the Union County Chamber of Commerce to enjoy “A Night With Carl” Thursday evening in downtown Union.
The chamber is sponsoring three free concerts in downtown Union this month as part of 2015 Music Month Downtown Union.
The first of these concerts is “A Night With Carl” which will be held Thursday from 7-9 p.m. on Herdon Street in downtown Union between the Union County Courthouse and the Union County School District Office Building.
The “Carl” in A Night With Carl is singer/musician Carl Brunson who has been described by Union County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Torance Inman as a “one man band” and a “crowd pleaser who fills the house at the South Carolina State Fair each year. He has performed at several events in Union and many have asked for a night just with Carl.”
The flyer distributed by the chamber promoting the concert states that “if you like Percy Sledge, Elvis, Willie Nelson, old classics, country and pop, you will want to hear Carl Brunson.”
The next concert in the Music Month Downtown Union series will be on Sept. 17 and feature “The Weatherman Band” whose members include Union native Jack Roper and several other “hometown boys.”
Like Brunson, The Weatherman Band has also performed previously in Union and, according to Inman, is also back by popular demand.
According to Inman, The Weatherman Band will perform a “variety of oldies” during its concert which will also be held on Herndon Street between the Union County Courthouse and the Union County School District Office Building from 7-9 p.m.
The third and final concert of the 2015 Music Month Downtown Union will be on Sept. 24 and feature the “Carolina Rhythm Band” which Inman has described as another favorite of Union County residents. Inman pointed that the band has previously performed at Relay For Life where they performed a mixture of both current and older hit songs that had the crowd wanting more.
Like the first two concerts, this one will also be held on Herndon Street between the Union County Courthouse and the Union County School District Office Building from 7-9 p.m.
All three concerts are free with the costs covered by the local and regional businesses, institutions and individuals helping the chamber sponsor them. The sponsors are:
• Bantam Chef
• Barbara Rippy
• The Michael A. Glenn Funeral Home
• Hometown Finance Co.
• USC Union
• E.L.B. Loan Inc.
• Hart Insurance Agency (Allstate)
• City Tire And Lube
