UNION — Thursday’s reception at the Union County Arts Council Art Gallery on Main Street in downtown Union drew a large crowd who got to view the artwork on display, meet the artists who produced those works, enjoy refreshments and socialize and, in one case, buy a painting.

The UCAC Art Gallery currently features an exhibit of approximately 40 paintings, photographs, and sculptures produced by 14 members of the Converse College arts program faculty.

On Thursday, the Arts Council hosted a reception for the artists and their artwork to give the general public an opportunity to not only view the work on display, but to also meet the artists in a social setting.

UCAC Coordinator Amber Ivey said that the evening as a success attracting a large turnout.

“It went good,” Ivey said Friday. “We had around 70 people.”

Some of the artwork on display at the Art Gallery was for sale and Ivey said that one painting, “Grazing Cows,” an oil on canvas by Andrea Elliott, was sold for $100.

The artwork by the Converse College arts program faculty will remain on display at the UCAC Art Gallery through Aug. 30.

Other Activities

The Art Gallery is also the site of a number of other activities sponsored by the Arts Council including:

• Painting with Coffee which is held every Tuesday at 10 a.m.

• Monday Night Music, an all-acoustic jam session which will be held Monday, Aug. 17 at 6:30 p.m.

• Toddler Time which invites all children ages 4 and under accompanied by a parent to be at the Art Gallery on Friday, Aug. 28 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. to explore art in a creative way. Cost is $10 per class.

The gallery is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. each day.
