BUFFALO — In addition to being a bakery and a cafe a Buffalo business operated by a mother and daughter is now an ice cream parlor as well.
Since November when they opened the “Apple Blossom Bakery & Cafe,” Carla Champion and her daughter Rebekah have been serving up baked goods, sandwiches, soups, pasta, and salads to their customers. At the end of February, they expanded their business by adding ice cream to the menu.
“We have added Hershey’s Ice Cream, which is all natural ice cream,” Champion said Tuesday afternoon. “We have 21 flavors and our most popular flavors are banana pudding and strawberry cheesecake. We have banana splits, fudge sundaes, brownie sundaes, milkshakes, and cones. We also offer sugar free cones for diabetics.”
Champion said that since opening Apple Blossom, she and her daughter had been looking for ways to expand and offer the public additional dining experiences.
“It’s just something we had thought about offering,” Champion said. “We researched which company had the best ice cream and Hershey’s impressed us the most.
“We just wanted to add it to our vintage bakery to give people the opportunity to come in and sit and have ice cream and visit,” she said. “We just wanted to give them the opportunity to bring their children, too.”
The Champions began serving ice cream on Feb. 27 with a special day of activities that included face painting for children, drawings and giveaways, a jewelry sale, and Mark Lawson’s race car parked outside the front door.
Champion said that business has been good since she and Rebekah opened Apple Blossom which is also available for groups wanting to celebrate special occasions.
“We offer birthday parties, sports banquets, local clubs, and family get togethers,” Champion said. “We had a basketball team that had its banquet here last night. Three more teams are going to have their banquets here.”
Apple Blossom Bakery & Cafe is located at 839 Main St., Suite D, Buffalo and is open Sunday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
