JONESVILLE — There only are two days left to register for The Potters House second Trailer Load of Food event slated for this Saturday, Nov. 7.

Pastor Don Moore wants to remind residents of Union County in need of food assistance they only have from 2-5 p.m. today (Wednesday, Nov. 4) and 2-5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, to preregister to receive a portion of the more than 23,000 pounds of food expected to be trucked in by semi-tractor trailer on Saturday to the church in Jonesville.

Some of that food is coming from right here in Union County.

“We were able, thanks to members of The Potters House and a Union businessman, to acquire approximately 4,000 extra pounds of much needed food for those in need,” Moore said.

More than 600 families are now registered to receive food, just in time for the holidays.

The event is set for 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday at the church and Moore said to come early as the line is expected to begin to form by about 7:30 a.m. Food vouchers will be given to those receiving the food beginning at 9 a.m.

Handicapped parking spaces will be available for those with a tag and people who have trouble standing while in line are urged to bring a chair. Special provisions also will be made for people with wheelchairs, crutches and walkers.

Moore and volunteers will assist in getting the food from the church lot to cars.

“Again, 35 or 40 volunteers are needed to assist with food prep, clerical, distribution and working in the kitchen making coffee, drinks and 400-plus hot dogs,” Moore said.

The church also still is in need of additional supplies to make the event successful.

“Again, we are asking for two refrigerators and one or two large freezers,” Moore said. “We missed out on several hundred extra pounds of meat because we have not got enough freezer space.”

Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the event or donating a refrigerator or freezer should contact Moore at (864) 680-3465 or Linda Jeffries at (864) 762-6316.
