Welcome to Whitmire High School, Charlie Jenkins! Charlie is the new football coach at Whitmire High. Charlie grew up in Union and graduated from Union High School. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Jenkins. His dad, John, is a 1962 graduate of Whitmire High School.

Upcoming Community News And Events

The May Mother’s Day celebration is around the corner. Members of The Whitmire Economic Development Board have a special Saturday event planned, May 10 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Whitmire Community Center near Park Street entrance. “Blooms For Mom” will feature Mary Kay makeovers, craft and art booths. The members of Cedar Grove AME Church have a Celebration of 144 years of worship May 10. Church members past and present are asked to submit information, photos for this special day of recognition and honor. Contact person is Fannie Hopkins.

Great Turnout

What a great turn out for the Health Walk, Saturday, April 5. Many volunteers worked the water booths, members of the Whitmire Rescue Squad were involved, Micheal and Chelsea Thomas provided a food sample booth,with healthy alternative samples and recipes. Others included Newberry Memorial Hospital. Folks young and old were involved in the walk.

“Pearl of The Piedmont”

The recently founded “Pearl of The Piedmont Artisan Guild Group” has elected officers. The officers are: Peggy Brickles — President, Rebecca Brandon — Treasurer, Laura Duckett — Secretary Butch Starnes — 2nd Vice President, and Jackie Seymore — Vice President. The guild was formed to bring Whitmire area crafters and artisans together.
