SPARTANBURG — On April 7, 2014, a morning of heavy rain, The Mary B. Thomas Girls Youth Circle Unit#16, District 5 was on a mission. The mission was to team up with the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen in Spartanburg, SC under the direction of the Executive Director Lou Landrum to serve the community.
They arrived at 9:30 a.m. When you enter the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen, you feel anxious, and happy to be a part of a beautiful and wonderful experience.
The girls were given their assignment, and were thrilled to be part of this program. Lunchtime began at 11:30 a.m. and the girls wanted everything right before the crowd started coming in.
The Golden Tones of Morningside Baptist Church provided music and song while the community ate and enjoyed fellowship.
The participation and the dedication of the volunteer staff and others were so heartwarming, the girls said to me, “Ms. Stewart can we come again?”
Ms. Landrum told me that they have a program titled “Empowering Women,” with special thanks to Circle 555 — Spartanburg Christian Foundation, and in the near future they will have a program for men. She was excited to let us know that changing lives of others is truly a wonderful feeling.
In the spirit of serving, we say “thank you.”
