UNION — A doubleheader against Dorman last week ended in one tie and one loss for the Sims Middle School softball team.

The first game of the doubleheader ended in a 5-5 tie. The pitcher for Sims was Kailee Stepp, who had five strikeouts and gave up two hits. Other game highlights for Sims included two hits — including a double — from Shy Means. Coach Kelly Jenkins said Shydericka Jeter also had a great catch in center field and threw the runner out at second base for a double play in the top of the fifth to stop a scoring run by the Cavaliers.

Game 2 of the doubleheader ended in an 11-3 loss for Sims. The Sims pitcher was Jordan Morris. Shy Means was two for two with a double. Kailee Stepp and Shydericka Jeter each had a hit.

“We got two outs with the game tied in the third, but we could not get out of the inning,” Jenkins said. “We got down 11-2 and Jordan came back to finish the game strong, but we could not overcome it.”

Jenkins said the score did not reflect the determination showed by her players.

“I can’t say enough about the heart that these girls played with,” she said. “We had enjoyed a long streak without a loss at Sims. I guess it is time to start a new one.”
