Wreck leaves one dead, four injured

SANTUC — An automobile accident that left one person dead and four others including a child injured is being investigated by the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Union County Sheriff’ David Taylor said that emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene of the accident on US 176 near the intersection with Tinker Creek Road at 2:19 p.m. He said that the accident involved a single vehicle carrying five people including four adults and one child.

Taylor said the driver of the vehicle was killed and the child and one adult airlifted to Greenville and the other two adults transported by ambulance to Spartanburg for medical treatment.

In addition to sheriff’s deputies, Taylor said Union County EMS, Newberry County emergency personnel, the Santuc Fire Department, and the Union County Rescue Squad were also dispatched to the scene. He said emergency personnel were on the scene for approximately three hours.

Taylor said the accident is being investigated by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
