SANTUC — Opening day is upon us as Union County Dragway will open its gates this Saturday, March 1, for an early season test and tune event.
The dragway will be open every Saturday in March for testing and grudge racing. Union County’s famous Friday night testing and grudge will begin on March 28 with the first points race on Saturday, March 29.
Tony Brown, now the sole operator of the facility, has been busy during the off season making repairs and improvements, getting ready for a great 2014 season.
“Our 2014 season now includes mostly Saturday racing to make it more family friendly and more convenient for fans to watch a complete event,” Brown said. “I am excited to have thirteen Summit Super Series bracket races to determine the class champions as well as our forty member team to send to the IHRA Division 2 bracket finals in September.
“Also, look for the all new IHRA Sonic Rush Tour, a national style event that will bring to the Carolinas a huge show including several jet cars, a jet semi truck, and much more,” he said. “The Steel In Motion rod run returns in May and is recognized as one of the best events of its kind in the entire southeast. We are also proud to announce our five year anniversary event on May 31, and of course, the return of the Southern Junior Dragster Nationals.”
Brown also announced another new event for 2014, the Halloween Festival on Saturday, Oct. 25. He said the festival will be a non-racing event “designed to offer all the kids and adults of Union and the surrounding areas a carnival-style atmosphere including games, a haunted hay ride and much more.”
