UNION — John Lee Rice, 75, 112 Sedgefield Drive entered eternal rest on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014 in Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care.

A native of Union, he was the husband of Viola Kershaw Rice of the home and the son of the late L. Dawkins and Sallie Rice Hellams. He attended the public schools of Union and was retired from the Kohler Company. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacons Ministry and was former Church custodian. He was a member of Enterprise Masonic Lodge #166.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Annie Mae Rice.

Survivors in addition to his wife include three sons, John Lee Rice Jr. of Orangeburg, S.C., Minister William Edward (Virginia) Rice of Winnsboro, S.C., and Scott Jerome (Serena) Rice of Jonesville, S.C.; one daughter, Madelyn Rice of Union, S.C.; four grandchildren, Preston Rice and Brandon Rice both of Jonesville, S.C., Shaunfhillip Dash of Charleston, S.C., and Sabrina Caldwell of Columbia, S.C.; five great-grandchildren, David Caldwell and Teyla Caldwell, both of Columbia, S.C. and Julian Edge, Zada Rice, and Ennis Rice all of Spartanburg, S.C.; two beloved grandchildren, Travis Worthy of Washington, D.C. and Latoya Rice of Spartanburg, S.C.; eight brothers, William (Louise) Hellams, Johnny Hellams, and James (Brenda) Hellams all of Philadelphia, PA, Jimmy (Pat) Dawkins, Charles (Kathleen) Dawkins, Emmitt (Madora) Dawkins, and Willie Dawkins all of Union, S.C., and Ozell (Louise) Dawkins of Gainesville, FL; seven sisters, Sarah Lewis, Laura Adams, Annie Mae (Walter) Moore, Mary (Henry) Burke, Christine (John) Hellams all of Philadelphia, PA, Mary Browning of Union, S.C., and Christine Brewster of Spartanburg, S.C.; one aunt, Thelma Tate of Morganton, N.C.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home.
