UNION — This Saturday’s Trans-South Wrestling event will include a double main event — a steel cage match and a three-way title match featuring a world-renowned pro wrestler.
TSW will hold its last event of the year at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Union County Fairgrounds.
The first main event will be new TSW Heavyweight Champion Peter Kaasa’s first title defense, in which he will have to wrestle two opponents instead of one. The three-way match will pit Kaasa against Ring of Honor’s Cedric Alexander and one of independent wrestling’s most talked about grapplers, Davey Richards.
“I think this is sort of part of Davey’s farewell tour,” speculated TSW senior referee Tracy Rash. “The rumor is that he is about to be in the spotlight on the biggest wrestling program of them all.”
Richards, however, said he has not signed with WWE, but he did debut on WWE’s NXT program last week. He has also cancelled scheduled appearances in Japan, as well as in Ring of Honor.
“All signs point to the WWE,” Rash said. “People should come out and watch him perform at a smaller show like this while they still have the opportunity. In the future, a ticket to see Davey Richards wrestle will cost way more than $9.”
The second part of Saturday’s double main event will be a steel cage match between former champion and longtime fan favorite Deon Johnson and “Hardcore” Hunter Thompson. The feud between Johnson and Thompson began in July when Thompson crashed a fan appreciation celebration hosted by Johnson. Johnson provided cake for all of the children in attendance, but before anyone could get a slice, Thompson dumped the cakes onto the floor and began a pro wrestling rivalry with Johnson.
In September, Thompson teamed with “Raging Bull” Manny Fernandez (with Thomas Simpson in their corner) to take on Johnson and Kassa, who had the legendary Terry Funk in their corner. Then, at this year’s Union County Agricultural Fair, Thompson — with the help of Luke Gallows — delivered a spiked piledriver from the top rope to Johnson, injuring his neck and keeping him out of action. Johnson will look for revenge this Saturday inside a steel cage.
Also in action this Saturday will be Ring of Honor’s Kyle O’Reilly, Chase “Cauliflower” Brown, Brandon Phoenix, Kameron Kade, Jett Black, and more. Advance tickets are available at Buffalo Pawn & Gun.
Crestview Baptist Church will provide concessions at the event, and proceeds will go toward funding the church’s upcoming mission trip to Nicaragua.
