UNION — Tired of having to drive to Spartanburg to eat wings while watching sports, Jamie Wise decided to do something about it and Union County residents will get to see what he did when “Extreme Wings” opens its doors to the public this morning.
“Me and my son want to go somewhere to eat and watch sports,” Wise said Friday morning. “We drive to Spartanburg all the time to eat wings and watch sports. We got tired of doing that so we needed a place here in Union and that’s Extreme Wings.”
Located at 708 S. Duncan Bypass, Suite D in the Nixon Center, Extreme Wings’ slogan is “Get Your Wing On!” which Wise said reflects the fact that chicken will be the restaurant’s specialty. He said the wings served at Extreme Wings will be superior in quality and taste because the chicken they are made from will be fresh, not frozen.
“With fresh chicken when it is cooked you are getting a fresh piece of chicken,” Wise said. “If you go and taste fresh chicken and frozen chicken you can tell the difference in the taste. Fresh chicken just tastes better.”
Cooking fresh chicken, however, takes longer than cooking frozen chicken, and Wise asked the public to take that into account when they are waiting on their order, a wait that he said will be worth it because of the superior taste and quality of the meal they will enjoy.
“It takes 14 minutes to cook fresh chicken,” Wise said. “We’re going to cook it so nothing’s greasy or left under a heat lamp.”
At Extreme Wings, customers can select orders of 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, and 40 wings each with dips and flavors. Customers can also choose from nine different sauces and rubs. There are also the “Combos & Tenders” which offer customers their choice of “Wings for 2,” the Extreme Combo, Chicken Tenders, and Boneless Wings.
The menu also offers customers their choice of “Side Bites” including Cheese Sticks, Fried Pickle Chips, Poppers, Beer Battered Onion Rings, and Extreme Fries. Customers also have their choice of “‘Wiches & Salads” including the Extreme Chicken Sandwich, Buffalo Chicken Salad, and the House Salad.
Under the “Sweet Treat” section there’s Fried Cheese Cake which is described as “Melt in your Mouth creamy cheesecake wrapped in a Flaky Fried pastry tortilla drizzled with Chocolate.”
Wise pointed out that, as far as he knows, no other restaurant in Union offers Fried Cheese Cake.
Beverages served at the restaurant include Pepsi products, “Southern Style Tea,” and water, but Wise said alcohol will eventually be served as well.
Wise said that items on the menu can also be ordered for takeout.
In addition to being served wings, diners at Extreme Wings will also have the opportunity to watch sports on any of the four flat screen TVs on the walls of the restaurant. To reinforce the sports theme, the walls are decorated with a variety of baseball, football, and basketball shirts, other memorabilia, and images.
Wise said that Extreme Wings will be a restaurant in which the whole family can enjoy a meal together while watching sports.
“We’re going for a family atmosphere,” Wise said. “Kids are welcome and there’s no smoking inside.”
Wise, who with his wife, Holly, also owns Tan Shop and Salon and Only Us Ladies Fitness, said he also decided to open the restaurant because he wants to see Union County grow.
“Union needs to grow, there’s nothing in Union,” Wise said. “My wife and I since we moved here have had the goal of bringing new business to Union for people to enjoy and to keep Union money in Union.”
Extreme Wings will open its doors to the public today at 11 a.m. It’s hours are 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday-Sunday.
