UNION — A local couple is once again opening their home to the public to raise funds for a charity.

Patrick and Lynn Mornane will be conducting private tours of the Nicholson Mansion through Dec. 24. This will be the fifth year the couple has opened their home for tours. The goal of the tours is to raise funds for local charities and this year the the funds raised will go to Meal on Wheels.

“We’re doing it as a charity event for Meals on Wheels,” Lynn Mornane said Wednesday. “We try every year to do something for a different charity and this year we chose Meals on Wheels. So what we’re doing is we’re doing private tours of the entire house. We’re going to be giving the history of the house and a little history on some of the decorations. We’re allowing cameras which we never have before.”

The Mornanes acquired the Nicholson Mansion in 2006 and completely restored it. They have opened their house to tours every year since 2009.

The first year they conducted the tours was to raise funds for the American Red Cross. Since then they’ve conducted tours on behalf of Wallace Thomson Hospital in 2012, the Miracle League of Union County in 2011. They first conducted a tour for Meals on Wheels in 2010.

Lynn Mornane is the current chairman of the board for Meals on Wheels.

Meals on Wheels is an organization composed of 60-65 volunteers who in 2012 delivered 26,155 meals or more than 2,000 a month to the residents of the 11 delivery routes in Buffalo and Union served by the group. The number of meals delivered included meals delivered to two daycare operations the group provides assistance to.

The tours are private and by appointment only. Each tour must have a minimum of four people. The Mornanes are charging $5 a person for each tour.

“This is a great opportunity for a family photo, social groups, garden clubs, church circles or anyone who wants to view a beautifully decorated home,” Lynn Mornane said.
