Donations support many charities

To the editor:

The Union Civitan Club is very pleased to report that this past fiscal year we were able to donate $2,910 to various charities.

We were able to provide support to The Red Cross, Special Olympics District 12, Union County Chamber of Commerse, Union County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, March of Dimes, Union Dixie Youth Boys Booster Club, Camp Spearhead, Autism Speaks, The Miracle League of Union County, Meals on Wheels and other community donations.

The Union Civitan club also helps fund the University of Alabama at Birmingham Civitan International Research Center, a world-class medical facility dedicated to researching developmental disabilities and other cognitive disabilities.

The Union Civitan Club is a group of citizens who volunteer in a wide range of charity projects in our area. We conduct fundraisers and charity projects to help others in the community, with a special emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities.

Some of these funds came from Union Civitan Club member donations, but mostly it is the local community we have to thank, since you were the ones who supported our various fund-raising activities. From the individuals and businesses that sponsored our Annual Pancake Day and now our Illuminate the Lake 5K, to the folks who bought tickets to eat pancakes and raffle items, know that you are contributing to charities such as those mentioned above.

Our community always pulls together to help out when there is a need. We are proud to be part of the community.

Thanking you again,

The Union Civitan Club
