UNION COUNTY — The Union County Yellow Jackets look to pick up their first region win tonight as they travel to Spartanburg’s Royal Stadium to face the Broome Centurions.

The Yellow Jackets suffered a heartbreaking 19-15 loss to Woodruff last week during the Region III-3A opener. Tonight, the Yellow Jackets will look for a victory in the second of five straight region games.

The Yellow Jackets’ record currently stands at 1-5, however, they are not to be counted out for playoff action. In 2012, the Jackets’ record for the regular season was 5-5 before they won four straight playoff games and an appearance in the Class 3A State Championship game in Columbia.

Coach Steve Taneyhill said earlier this week that the team’s problem this year has been with its offense. He said the team’s offense has to learn to help its defense by sustaining drives and improving on first downs. Taneyhill also said the Jackets have tweaked the offensive line in an effort to boost pass protection, particularly against blitzes.

Players to watch on the Broome team will include linebacker Bauvier Jackson who garnered attention in the pre-season. Earlier in the season, Jackson suffered a deep thigh bruise and high ankle sprain, from which he has now recovered.
