UNION COUNTY — Tonight’s match-up between the Union County Yellow Jackets and the Woodruff Wolverines will mark this season’s first game of region play for both teams.

Both Union County and Woodruff have played tough schedules leading up to their region opener. Union County (1-4) has played Spartanburg, Gaffney, Greer, Fairfield Central and Newberry leading up to tonight’s game. Woodruff (2-3) has played Abbeville, Byrnes, Chesnee, Laurens and Ninety-Six.

Last week, Union County picked up its first win of the season over previously undefeated Newberry with a final score of 35-17. Woodruff lost to Ninety Six with a final score of 38-35.

In Region III-3A competition, however, both teams are 0-0, getting a fresh start tonight at Union County Stadium.

Players to watch on the Woodruff roster include standout wide receiver No. 8 Blake Bone.

Players to watch from Union County include Jordan Spencer — who scored a touchdown, returned a punt for more than 50 yards, and picked an interception in last week’s game — and defensive standout Jamarcus Henderson, who leads the Yellow Jackets in sacks and tackles.
