SANTUC — The Santuc Community Fun Day will be held in October.
The event was originally scheduled for this past Saturday but was canceled due to rainy weather. It has been rescheduled to coincide with Salem Baptist Church’s — the event’s sponsor — fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 12.
Event coordinator Heather Barnado said the event will still feature the same scheduled activities, including a bounce house; free hot dogs, snow cones, popcorn and drinks; a dunk tank (dunking Pastor Jim); balloon animals; face painting; temporary tattoos; games; and live music. A fire truck from the Santuc Fire Department will be on display for the children. There will also be a door prize giveaway of items donated by local businesses.
Since the event will now coincide with the church’s fall festival, additional activities will include trunk-or-treat, cake walks and hayrides.
When the community fun day was originally planned, Pastor Jim Wiseman said the event is for everyone in the surrounding community.
“We had been talking for awhile on how we could let the rest of the people in our community know that we care for them,” Wiseman said. “How could we show them that God loves each and every one of them? Someone suggested we throw them a party, and that’s what the Santuc Community Fun Day is all about. We’re having a party for all of the people in our neighborhood.”
Event coordinator Heather Barnado said the event is part of a church outreach project to promote a sense of community and encourage the community to become involved in church life.
“We began an outreach program in the community last year with a clothes giveaway and hot dog lunch,” Barnado said. “The block party is another step in our outreach project. We are a small community church that just wants to share the love of God with others.”
The Fall Festival/Community Fun Day will be held Saturday, Oct. 12 at Salem Baptist Church, located at 1835 Tinker Creek Road in Santuc.
