UNION — This year’s Union County Agricultural Fair will host the North and South Carolina State Final Competition of the 32nd Annual Texaco Country Showdown — America’s largest country music talent search. The show will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, on the main fair stage.

Contestants at this year’s Texaco Country Showdown North/South Carolina State Final represent the following radio stations: WCRE-FM Cheraw; WRHI-FM Fort Mill; WRHT-FM Greenville, NC; WRHM-FM Lancaster; WKVS-FM Lenior, NC; WRSF-FM Nags Head, NC; WRHI-AM Rock Hill; WBCU-FM Union; WPTM-FM Weldon, NC; and WVSZ-FM York.

For over 100 years, the Union County Agriculture Fair Association (UCAFA) has presented an excellent carnival to the citizens of Union and surrounding counties. This four-day event — taking place from Oct. 15-19 at the Union County Fairgrounds — promises to be the biggest and best yet!

In addition to carnival rides and agriculture, this year’s fair will include live music entertainment, a live show performance by Kachunga and the Alligator, and the Texaco Country Showdown North and South Carolina State Final Competition.

Admission for the fair will be $6 for adults and $4 for children. For additional information, call (864) 427-6259.

About The Showdown

Annually, a series of over 450 local, state, and regional live shows produced by country music radio stations are held throughout the country. Winners advance to their state events where prizes include $1,000 and the opportunity to compete in one of five regional events. Regional winners receive an all-expense-paid trip to the national final in Nashville to compete for $100,000 and the coveted title “Best New Act in Country Music.”

Each year, more than 50,000 artists compete throughout the U.S. Past local, state, and regional winners include Martina McBride, Garth Brooks, Miranda Lambert, Jason Aldean, Sara Evans and Billy Ray Cyrus. Visit www.texacocountryshowdown.com for more information.
