UNION — The Union County 4-H program will celebrate responsible dog ownership this Saturday.
On Saturday, the third-annual AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. under the picnic shelter at the Union County Fairgrounds, rain or shine.
Admission for the day is one can of dog food, which will be donated to the local animal shelters. Several dog breeders will be on hand to tell about their particular breeds, as well as area dog groomers. Also, the Union County Police K-9 Unit will give a demonstration.
Information will be available about the AKC Canine Good Citizen program, and Beth Timer — of Timer’s Tiny Dogs — will teach three obedience commands and offer the Canine Good Citizen certification test.
Information will also be available for the AKC Star Puppy Classes, Basic Dog Obedience, and much more.
“If you just want to bring your pup out for a good day of fun, the Responsible Dog Owner Day is just the place,” said Anne Brock of the Clemson Extension office.
All dog breeds are welcome, including mixed breeds and pure breeds. Dogs are not required to be registered with AKC to participate.
Other activities will include a Fun Dog Show with prizes, door prizes, and concessions. All dogs must be on a leash.
